The Manhattan Bridge, 100 years ago

Courtesy of The Bowery Boys website, a site devoted to NYC history - an amazing photograph of the Manhattan Bridge being built in 1909:

This photograph was taken from an angle roughly around the heart of the Lower East Side, currently the boundary of Chinatown where it blends into the old Jewish neighborhood.  My wife's family lives near that spot today, so it is fascinating to see it as it once looked.  And best of all, there's not a luxury condo anywhere!  Check out the original website if you're into history in general, New York in particular, and subscribe to their podcast.  It's great!

I miss my mom

Just did a Google Maps search for something else when some perverse imp moved me to look up my late mother's address and do a Street View. Seeing the street moved me to experience a profound feeling of loss. It is also, possibly, the fact that this will be my first Christmas without her, and the sadness of her life this past decade. Whatever it is, it's moving around in my chest, this great feeling of loss and regret.

I miss my mom.

New Watchmen Trailer

The one-sheet is at my local movie place, the one with Eddie Blake getting tossed out of his window. I am sorrily stoked for this movie. Hopefully the asinine legal issues get resolved to everyone's satisfaction, but no news is good news.

Don't know why exactly, but I am feeling down today...bleh. Days like this, my favorite thing would be to go to Borders, slap on earphones, find a cushy chair and read for hours from a stack of assorted books and magazines. Bleh.
